Yellowstone National Park.
The vivid colors of the hot springs, the acid pools and the steam emanating from them are created by the bacteria living in these waters.

I grew up very near Yellowstone Park. The American Indians used Yellowstone for wintering over. The warm waters, green grasses year around and the animals who stay near the grasslands make this site an oasis in the dry, bitter cold of Wyoming winters. It was called, "Colter's Hell", for a time. The bubbling mud pots, geysers and steaming pools of boiling water were very "foreign" to the first European settlers who came West in the early 1800s. By the time I was born in the 1940s, Yellowstone was fully commercialized yet pristine and beautiful, too. Thanks for posting this one, Dan!
